Overview
The department of Medical Oncology comprises of adult solid tumor, adult haematolymphoid, paediatric oncology and BMT unit. The department manages an out patient clinic and cater to more than 200 patients a day, a 14-hour day care for administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood, blood products and 24-hour casualty services to manage oncological emergencies. Solid oncology services provide medical management to adult patients, Paediatric oncology unit is involved in the management of children with hematological and solid malignancies, adult haematolymphoid division is involved in management of adults with hematological malignancies. Joint clinics are an integral part of the treatment process and are undertaken in collaboration with faculty from pathology, radiology, surgery, and radiation oncology to provide comprehensive care to our patients. Bone marrow transplant unit at ACTREC is one of the largest in the country and performs nearly 100 transplants every year including autologous and allogenic transplants. The first indigenous CART in India was performed at ACTREC on 4th June 2021. Department also offer cellular therapies for hematolymphoid malignancies. Apart from clinical services, the department provides training to senior residents pursuing DM in Medical Oncology and to fellows in the field of bone marrow transplantation and also PhD program for research scholars. Research forms an important part of the department’s vision. Priority research areas are identifying novel compounds and low-cost solutions for management of malignancies and strategies to mitigate complications of conventional chemotherapy drugs and bone marrow transplantations. Our mission is to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care to our patients, to train physicians in Oncology to carry out research relevant to the Indian setting.

- Joint clinics with multiple specialties including Radiation, surgical, radiology pathology (including molecular), and palliative oncology to provide comprehensive and holistic treatment for cancer patients.
- PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) clinic: to provide counseling, line access and post-insertion care of central lines, Ports and catheters.
- Ongoing clinical research: Ongoing globally sponsored and investigator-initiated trials/ studies including Phase I/II/III/IV for novel molecules/therapies and drug combinations.
- Specialized and trained chemotherapy nursing staff to administer chemotherapy in day care and inpatient wards
- Well-equipped wards to manage all complications of chemotherapy and oncology related emergencies
- Neoadjuvant/ adjuvant and palliative chemotherapy for adult solid tumor malignancies- including head and neck, Thoracic, Bone and soft tissue, Gastro-intestinal and hepato- biliary, Genito-urinary and Breast.
