Therapy Resistance & Stem Cell Biology
In spite of substantial progress in drug development, treatment strategies and patient care, the mortality rate in cancer patients did not decline significantly over the last few years. Presently, the utmost challenge in successful cure for cancer encompasses intrinsic and acquired resistance exhibited by the cancer cells during or after completion of the treatment. Therapy resistance in cancer cells can be attributed to altered molecular pathways or to the enrichment of a subset of stem cell like population known as “Cancer Stem Cells (CSC)”. The global focus of this group is to comprehend the underlying mechanism of stem cells, therapy resistant cancer cells and cancer stem cells and to decipher the unique biology and identify therapeutic targets.
