Cancer Research is thriving in India, which is reflected in how IACR membership has expanded over the last few years.
Cancer Research in India encompasses basic research in cancer biology, and in recent years, this has been accompanied by wonderful
advances in bringing both new diagnostic and prognostic measures to the clinic and new therapeutic practices to improve patient care.
Despite these advances, we need to do more as a community and cannot rest on our laurels. IACR has been at the
forefront of cancer research in India and also promotes cancer awareness. The annual IACR meeting is an excellent opportunity
for students and postdocs to meet faculty and learn from them. In addition, it is also a forum for scientists to interact with
our clinical colleagues and come together to solve problems that directly impact patient care.
I wish you all the best in your endeavors and encourage you to spread the word about IACR to your colleagues and
students who are not members and encourage them to join IACR.
Sincerely, Dr. Sorab N. Dalal, President, IACR
IACR (Indian Association of Cancer
Research) was founded in November, 1980 in Mumbai with envision
towards advancements in research encompassing all the aspects of
cancers as well as to promote the interaction among researchers
in this field from across different parts of our nation. Over the
past 40 years, IACR has made significant strides from fostering
research in cancer diagnosis, therapy and prevention to promoting
cancer education and cancer awareness amongst the society. Today
IACR serves as platform holding international conferences,
workshops, local meetings, awareness programs and much more,
which traditionally brings students, researchers, post-doctoral
fellows, young investigators, senior scientists, medical
faculties, oncologists and industrialists together under a single
roof, thus, encouraging significant developments in all the
arenas related to cancers, through thorough understanding of the
molecular basis of cancer and therapeutics. The number of IACR
life members has steadily risen, with a current strength of over
1000 life members, which includes more than 100 overseas members.
The IACR Secretariat operates from Tata Memorial Centre – ACTREC Navi Mumbai India.
